Program for Partnering Workshop - March 15, 2012
Space has been reserved at AAA Michigan Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan for a partnering
workshop focused on Traffic Incident Management on March 15, 2012. Meeting should focus on
best practices for police and fire services. Phil Wagner noted that the City of Grand Rapids has a
response vehicle equipped for responses on the 131 freeway in Grand Rapids. Several fire trucks
have been hit responding to traffic incidents on this freeway. Phil Wagner suggested that Millie
Goldfeder, Deputy Fire Chief for the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department in Ohio, would be a good
keynote speaker for responder safety.
Another good presentation for the program would be a sharing of police resources, such as the
program on I-75 for the communities of Auburn Hills, Troy, and Bloomfield Township. St. Clair
Shores police have a policy on quick removal of vehicles that should also be included in the program.
The program should also feature a panel discussion using videos from the Michigan Intelligent
Transportation Systems Center so that commentary can be offered on police and fire responses to
traffic incidents. The panel would include a police representative, fire representative, and a
representative from the Michigan Intelligent Transportation Systems Center. The discussion might
be moderated by Bob Clark, Mayor of the City of Monroe, who is a former state police captain. The
panel would comment on videos taken by MITSC cameras and initiate a discussion that would
encourage police and fire services to work together.
The program might also include a presentation by emergency medical responders. Roger Simpson
from Huron Valley Ambulance would be a good presenter on ambulance service response.
