Application Requirements for the “Rising Star” Award in Intelligent Transportation Systems

Celebrating emerging leaders and transforming transportation through innovation

The “Rising Star” Award in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is designed to recognize and promote emerging professionals who demonstrate exceptional promise, innovation, and contribution within the field. As the transportation sector faces rapid technological evolution, it is imperative to identify and support new talent whose vision and dedication will shape the future of mobility.

This document outlines a comprehensive set of application requirements for prospective nominees, ensuring that the award honors individuals who have shown excellence, leadership, and innovation in Intelligent Transportation Systems.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Field of Work: Applicants must be actively engaged in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems, which includes, but is not limited to, areas such as traffic management, urban mobility, connected and automated vehicles, transportation data analytics, public transit technology, and smart infrastructure.
  • Professional Status: Applicants should be early-career professionals, typically with less than 10 years of experience after their highest degree or qualification.
  • Geographical Scope: The award is open to all candidates’ part of ITS Michigan.
  • Age Limit: No age limit
  • Affiliation: Affiliation with ITS Michigan preferred but not required

Nomination and Application Process

1. Nomination Submission

  • Applicants may be self-nominated or nominated by a supervisor, mentor, academic advisor, or professional peer.
  • A complete application package must be submitted via email before the September 6, 2025, deadline.

2. Application Requirements

The application should include the following components:

  • Personal Statement: A statement (max 500 words) written by the nominee, outlining their interest in ITS, significant accomplishments, career goals, and how their work contributes to the field’s advancement.
  • Resume: A detailed CV highlighting educational background, professional experience.
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation: At least one, but not more than three, letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with the applicant’s work, character, and contributions to ITS.
